Hoquiam Police are alerting the public to a phone scam where the scammer pretends to be with the police department. A victim received a call from someone claiming to be Lt. Salstrom with Hoquiam Police and demanding payment for a missed court date and threatening jail time if they didn’t pay up. The victim did not speak English well and handed the phone off to someone else. That person realized the scam and the caller hung up. Police remind you they will never call and warn you about being arrested and they will never ask for money or personal information over the phone.
