According to the city of Aberdeen:
The City of Aberdeen will kick off three construction projects beginning on Monday, May 12, 2025. These efforts are part of the City’s ongoing commitment to roadway safety, pedestrian connectivity, and infrastructure resiliency. Residents, businesses, and travelers should prepare for temporary impacts in the following areas:
1. 3rd Avenue Slide Repair
Long-awaited slide repair work will begin on 3 rd Avenue between Bellevue Avenue and N F Street. To ensure the safety of both workers and the public, the road is planned to be fully closed for approximately three weeks. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes. This repair is essential to ensure the long-term stability of the roadway.
2. Sumner Avenue Sidewalk Improvements
This project will construct missing sidewalk segments, provide minor drainage improvements, and create a continuous pedestrian corridor on the south side of Sumner Avenue from Williams Street to Myrtle Street. Regular single-lane closures will occur during working hours. After hours, all travel lanes will reopen; however, the shoulder will remain closed and on-street parking will be restricted. Completion is expected by July 2025.
3. Market Street Sidewalk Improvements
Sidewalk upgrades will begin the week of May 12 on the north side of Market Street, from I Street to L Street. Work will proceed block-by-block, beginning with I Street to Broadway. This project addresses ADA accessibility deficiencies throughout the corridor, bringing sidewalks up to current standards for safe and inclusive access. Parking will be prohibited on Market Street and adjacent side streets as needed. While business access will be maintained, vehicle and pedestrian access may be temporarily rerouted to alleys during active construction.
These projects are critical investments in Aberdeen’s infrastructure and reflect the City’s dedication to building a safer, more accessible community. We appreciate your continued patience as we work to enhance the City’s transportation network. For your safety, please remain alert, follow all traffic control signage, and obey instructions from flagging personnel.
