Income Tax In Washington State?

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson appears to be backing what is believed to be a future income tax to deal with budget shortfalls down the road.

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson says he is not proposing new taxes to balance his supplemental budget — but he appears to be backing what is believed to be a future income tax to deal with budget shortfalls down the road.

State Republican leaders say they’re disappointed by the governor’s apparent push for an eventual income tax, but they are encouraged that Ferguson’s supplemental budget avoids new taxes.

They say the real test will come when legislative Democrats send the governor their spending plan.

Republicans say they plan to push for a budget they believe the state can afford.
