It’s called the Spirits Fee and it’s causing some confusion to consumers. In an article in the U.S. Sun, it is reported that the fee is really a tax imposed on alcohol which are considered spirits. In the article, it has an example of White Claw beverages which have about 5 percent alcohol, and the state considers the beverage a spirit.
