Aberdeen Will Almost Double EMS Fee

In a 7–3 decision Wednesday night, council members approved nearly doubling the EMS utility rate from about $34 to $67 a month.

Aberdeen residents will soon be paying more for emergency medical services after a city council vote last week. In a 7–3 decision Wednesday night, council members approved nearly doubling the EMS utility rate from about $34 to $67 a month starting April 1. City officials say the increase is needed because the current fee doesn’t cover the true cost of ambulance and emergency response services, leaving the city to fill a roughly $2 million funding gap each year. Smaller increases are already scheduled for the next two years, pushing the monthly rate to about $71 by 2028.
