Razor Clam Digging Alert! WDFW Green-Lights 6 Days Starting Valentine's Day + More Through Early March!
Great news for clam diggers! The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has approved razor clam digs at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis, and Mocrocks beaches from February 14–19, 2026. Bonus: Additional tentative dates are planned through early March (pending toxin tests).
“This series kicks off with a Valentine’s Day dig on Feb. 14!” said Bryce Blumenthal, WDFW coastal shellfish biologist. “Presidents Day weekend tides hit before or just after sunset—perfect for plenty of daylight digging.”
Important reminders:
- Copalis and Mocrocks aren't open every day—double-check the schedule before you go!
- All digs are late afternoon/evening only (noon to midnight).
- Most success happens 1–2 hours before low tide.
- Always check current domoic acid levels (a marine toxin) on the WDFW domoic acid webpage. Final approval usually comes 3–7 days (sometimes sooner) before each series.
- Recent biotoxin closures don't affect razor clams or crabs—check the DOH shellfish safety map for other species.
