The Westport Police Department officially unveiled its new bike patrol program this weekend at Pirate Daze. Several officers and the chief of police have been trained and certified to perform bicycle patrols. Officials say the bikes were about $1,000 each and they give officers looking for and respond to incidents a different vantage point. The Daily World says the department will always have an officer in a patrol car when bike patrol officers are on duty, which will mainly be during the summertime and be based around the harbor.
