More than 750,000 gallons of chemicals are now being removed from the dormant Cosmo Specialty Fibers mill in Cosmopolis. The EPA and state Ecology Department say deteriorating conditions pose a long-term environmental risk, but there's no immediate threat to the public. The mill's owner disputes that, saying the material is safely stored and the removal could make restarting the mill more difficult. The work is expected to take about five months, bringing more equipment and truck traffic around the site.
