Hoquiam Mayor Winkelman and the City Council honored freshman track star RenaeJah Burtenshaw this week with an official proclamation declaring it “RenaeJah Burtenshaw Week.” The Hoquiam High School sprinter dominated the 1A competition this season, winning first place at multiple major meets—including the WIAA State Championships—while setting school records along the way. Her 11.96 qualifying time in the 100m is one of the fastest ever by a freshman. City leaders and the Hoquiam Police Department congratulated her on a remarkable start to what’s shaping up to be a record-breaking high school career.
