The city of Aberdeen this week passed a new rule that says vacant buildings downtown must be kept up. The change to the city adds a standard of appearance for occupied and unoccupied buildings located in the Downtown Parking and Business Improvement District and west to Park Street. Vacant buildings will have to register with the city and there are new Rules for what minimum maintenance is required. The new rule also requires owners to keep buildings secure. They will have 72 hours to repair any busted door or broken window or face daily fines.
