Sierra Pacific To Pay Fine

The Aberdeen sawmill has agreed to pay more than half a million dollars.

An Aberdeen sawmill has agreed to pay more than half a million dollars to settle a lawsuit over polluted runoff reaching the Chehalis River and Grays Harbor. The case, filed by Twin Harbors Waterkeeper, accused Sierra Pacific Industries of violating the Clean Water Act, though the company denies any wrongdoing. As part of the deal, Sierra Pacific will pay $150,000 each to three local tribes for water restoration projects and make improvements to its stormwater system. Environmental groups say the agreement is another step toward cleaner waterways across southwest Washington.
