Crews have been on the scene of a wildfire in Pacific County that started Saturday night. The fire started in the Elk River area and according to published reports stated at about 3-5 acres. DNR officials were on the scene yesterday with two helicopters and 5 brush trucks. Several people reported seeing the smoke for miles and residents had to be alerted to atop calling 911 at one point. The fire was burning through the slash at last check and is being referred to as the Johns River fire. A cause of the fire has not been announced.
