Medicare Scam Calls Reported

A new Medicare scam is making its way through Grays Harbor, and Hoquaim police say at least one person has already been targeted.

A new Medicare scam is making its way through Grays Harbor, and Hoquaim police say at least one person has already been targeted. Scammers are calling residents, claiming a new Medicare card is coming, then sending a cheek swab kit that victims are told to mail back. Investigators say the goal is often to bill Medicare or private insurance for fake lab work or even enroll victims in costly plans. Officers are reminding families, especially seniors, that Medicare will never ask for a DNA sample or send surprise testing kits. Anyone who thinks they’ve been targeted should contact local law enforcement and Medicare directly.
