Last week the city council set the fees for the vacant commercial building ordinance and its starts at $100 for a building vacant less than a year.

City leaders in Aberdeen set fees and fines for abandoned buildings downtown. Last week the city council set the fees for the vacant commercial building ordinance and its starts at $100 for a building vacant less than a year. The fees go to $250 per year after three years of no occupancy. There is also a monthly $100 vacant building inspection fee, which means the owner of a vacant building could be looking at $1450 per year in fees if the property stays vacant. The fees won’t be enforced until the city can properly notify property owners.
