The Aberdeen City council is looking to raise the utility tax to make up for a budget shortfall. The Daily News reports the city has a budget deficit of $3.5 million and wants to raise the utility tax from 2 to 4.5 percent, A first reading of the amendment will be read at the October 9th council meeting. The second hearing, which would include a public hearing, would be at the October 23rd meeting. The city says its already made “targeted cuts”. If approved the increase would be about $6.50 cents more on your utility bill. Hoquiam’s utility tax is 15 percent.
