Grays Harbor County Appoints J.R. Streifel Jr. as District 3 Commissioner

The appointment was approved during the Board’s regular meeting on May 5, 2026.

The Grays Harbor Board of County Commissioners has appointed James J. Streifel Jr., known as “J.R. Streifel,” to serve as County Commissioner for District 3.

The appointment was approved during the Board’s regular meeting on May 5, 2026, following the resignation of former Commissioner Vickie L. Raines. The vacancy became effective March 31, 2025.

Under Article II, Section 15 of the Washington State Constitution, county commissioners are authorized to appoint a qualified individual from the same district to complete the remainder of an unexpired term.

Commissioners said Streifel met all statutory qualifications and was selected based on his experience, leadership, and commitment to public service. He will officially assume office on May 16, 2026, and serve through the remainder of the current term.

Streifel brings decades of public service and community involvement to the position. His background includes service as a firefighter with the City of Aberdeen, membership on the Cosmopolis School Board, participation in regional safety councils, and volunteer work with local mentoring and community programs.

Throughout his career, Streifel has focused on collaboration, public safety, and improving public services. He said he is committed to strengthening county operations, supporting economic development, and working alongside community partners to address the needs of Grays Harbor County residents.

The Board of County Commissioners expressed confidence in Streifel’s leadership and said they look forward to working with him in service to the county.
