A Grays Harbor man is convicted of rape almost 20 years after the crime. The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department says Paul Bieker has been convicted of raping a 17-year-old McCleary girl in 2003. Court record show Bieker kidnapped the girl in his own vehicle, took her to an undisclosed location and rapped her. Although DNA samples were entered into a national database, there was no match. In 2020 the sheriff’s department obtained a grant to do genecology DNA testing and a list of possible suspects came back that included Bieker. He was arrested in 2021. The statute of limitations had expired on the kidnapping charge but a jury came back with a guilty verdict in the rape trial on Friday.
