Whale Washes Ashore In Westport

The juvenile gray whale that is said to be no more than 2 years old.

A whale carcass that washed ashore in Half Moon Bay will stay there until mother nature takes its course. The juvenile gray whale that is said to be no more than 2 years old is on state parks land and is in an area that’s not accessible with the heavy equipment needed to remove it. Experts with NOAA say it’s possible the whale died from a vessel strike but there’s not enough evidence to say for sure. Although the carcass is a natural food source for the ecosystem, officials say you and your pets should stay away from it since it could carry disease. Ita also protected by law and taking any part of it as a souvenir is a federal crime.
