The opening of Harbor Heights, a new juvenile detention facility in Aberdeen, has been delayed due to staffing shortages. Located at Stafford Creek Corrections Center, the facility was expected to open this month but is now postponed until at least June. Officials cite challenges in hiring medical and counseling staff, as well as competition with the Department of Corrections, as reasons for the delays. Despite the setback, lawmakers are exploring policy changes to address long-term overcrowding at Green Hill School, which remains above safe capacity.
