Weather Related Accidents Yesterday In Grays Harbor

Even with soaking rains and flooding across Grays Harbor and Pacific counties, scientists say the Northwest still faces a growing water concern.

High winds overnight have led to traffic trouble in downtown Aberdeen this morning. Police say part of a building collapsed in the 200 block of East Wishkah, forcing the closure of the left lane and the south sidewalk during the morning commute. Drivers are being asked to take it slow and plan for delays.

Another round of severe weather may have played a role in a late-night crash on State Route 109 at Powell Road in Hoquiam, where two vehicles hit a downed tree. Grays Harbor Scanner reports it’s still unclear whether anyone was hurt. Drivers are being reminded to slow down and stay alert as storms continue to impact roadways.

Even with soaking rains and flooding across Grays Harbor and Pacific counties, scientists say the Northwest still faces a growing water concern. Warm storms are filling reservoirs but failing to build snowpack, which normally supplies water during the dry summer months. Experts say snow levels are the lowest they’ve ever been this time of year, thanks to record-breaking fall warmth. The concern now is what that means months from now, when the rain stops and demand for water rises.
