Aberdeen Police Chief Steve Shumate is retiring after 33 years in law enforcement. In a letter to the mayor, Chief Shumate said the decision to retire came after a lot of prayer and discussions with family and friends. Chief Shumate began his career as a Grays Harbor deputy sheriff and accepted the position of Aberdeen police chief in 2018. In his retirement letter he thanked a long list of fellow law enforcement officers and first responders as well as his family for allowing him to have such a long and distinguished career.
