The city of Cosmopolis has a new fire chief for the volunteer department. At last week’s council meeting Mayor Pauley appointed Mark Tarabochia to the position and the appointment was unanimously confirmed by city council. Chief Tarabochia brings over year of Washington firefighting experience with him including 14 years as a fire commissioner in Skagit County. The city council has also approved the fire chief’s position to the be paid for the first time ever. City administrator Darren Raines saying in a press release there will be a lot of work involved in rebuilding the department after a walkout of all volunteers at the end of 2021.
