DNA Solves Local Cold Case

The remains were discovered near Taholah but went unidentified for nearly 20 years.

A decades-old mystery on the Washington coast has finally been solved. Officials say human remains found in 2006 belong to Ed Asher, a former Oregon mayor who disappeared while crabbing and was presumed drowned. The remains were discovered near Taholah but went unidentified for nearly 20 years. New DNA testing completed last year finally gave the Graya Harbor John Doe a name and brought long-awaited answers.
