The discount would be reduced on a sliding scale dependent income level.
The Hoquiam City Council has approved an ordinance to change how water rate discounts are figured for low-income residents. Under the change approved at Monday’s meeting, residents 65 and older can still get a 25% discount, if their annual income does not exceed $20,000. The discount would be reduced on a sliding scale dependent income level. There are other requirements to qualify as low income and residents must re-apply for the discount annually. The changes take effect January 1st of next year.
