With Memorial Day weekend approaching, the Hoquiam Fire Department is asking people to be extra careful with outdoor fires and backyard gatherings. Fire crews say warmer weather and drier conditions can quickly increase the risk of accidental fires across Grays Harbor. Residents are being reminded to keep fire pits away from buildings and brush, have water nearby and fully extinguish fires before leaving the area. Firefighters also encourage everyone to check current burn restrictions before lighting any outdoor fire this holiday weekend.
