The EPA is awarding Washington four-and-a-half million dollars for cleanup of polluted properties, and the Grays Harbor Council of Governments will get $1 million. The money will be used to conduct 18 Phase I and 14 Phase II environmental site assessments; prepare 10 cleanup plans, four reuse plans, one area-wide plan, as well as to conduct community engagement events. Activities will focus on Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Westport, Elma, Cosmopolis and Oakville. Local officials say the investment will enable them to breathe new life into vacant industrial properties and blend seamlessly to support ongoing critical projects.
