Grays Harbor County Commissioner Vickie Raines Announces Early Resignation, Effective March 31, 2026

The decision accelerates her previously stated plan not to seek re-election, marking the end of more than 26 years in elected office and 11 years specifically as District 3 Commissioner.

Grays Harbor County District 3 Commissioner Vickie Raines has announced her resignation from the Board of County Commissioners, effective March 31, 2026. The decision accelerates her previously stated plan not to seek re-election, marking the end of more than 26 years in elected office and 11 years specifically as District 3 Commissioner.

In a statement shared publicly and referenced in local reporting, Raines explained that the move allows her to pursue a new opportunity where she believes she can continue making a positive impact on people's lives.

"After 11 years as your District 3 GHC Commissioner and over 26 years of elected office, I have the opportunity to do something different," Raines wrote. "While I believe much has been accomplished during my tenure at the County, there are things I’m leaving unfinished and for that I apologize."

Raines, who defeated Keith Olson in the 2014 election to claim the seat, highlighted key priorities she hopes will advance after her departure:

  • Completion of a much-needed criminal justice facility for the Sheriff's Office and community.
  • Continued strong support for law enforcement, fire and EMS services, 911 dispatch, and emergency responders.
  • Greater resources and focus for the County's Finance Department and Budget Manager to secure long-term financial stability.

She also noted progress on long-term planning efforts she has championed since first running for office, including a ready-to-implement Capital Facilities Plan, ongoing work on Comprehensive Land Use and Parks Plans, and the formulation of a strategic plan.

"Proper planning and enacting those plans is key to the success of any entity," Raines emphasized.

Looking ahead to the vacancy in District 3, Raines urged the remaining commissioners to fill the seat through a non-partisan process by soliciting letters of interest from qualified individuals.

"That’s what the voters supported — and there really is no room for party politics at the local level," she stated.

Raines indicated she will share more details in the coming weeks while wrapping up outstanding projects. She expressed gratitude to constituents, colleagues, and the community for their support over the years.

The announcement comes just weeks after Raines confirmed in late December 2025 that she would not run for a fourth term. Her early exit will create an appointment process for the remainder of the term, per state and county guidelines.

Local officials and residents have yet to publicly comment on potential successors or the implications for ongoing county initiatives. The Board of County Commissioners—currently including District 1 Commissioner Georgia Miller and District 2 Commissioner Rick Hole—will address the vacancy in upcoming meetings.
