Aberdeen Police Arrest Burglary Suspect Following Westport Road Standoff

Officers later located the suspect, identified as a 27-year-old woman from Florida.

Aberdeen Police arrested a burglary suspect Sunday morning following a prolonged incident near Westport Road that required the assistance of crisis negotiators and emergency responders.

At approximately 9:56 a.m., Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to a reported burglary at CMA Towing, located at 1901 Westport Road. The business owner reported that a female suspect had entered the property through a gate, broken a vehicle window, and entered the vehicle. When confronted, the suspect allegedly pushed the owner and fled the scene on foot.

Officers later located the suspect, identified as a 27-year-old woman from Florida, near a tree line along Westport Road. She was eventually found standing in a roadside ditch filled with approximately two and a half feet of water.

During the encounter, the suspect displayed self-harming behavior while holding a pair of scissors. The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist, providing a trained crisis negotiator while officers worked to de-escalate the situation.

As the incident continued, the suspect removed a metal strap from her purse and placed it around her neck. Officers then moved in and, after a brief struggle, safely took her into custody.

Personnel from the Aberdeen Fire Department responded to evaluate the suspect at the scene before she was transported to Harbor Regional Hospital for treatment.

Following medical clearance and release from the hospital, the suspect was booked into the Aberdeen City Jail on charges including burglary, assault, resisting arrest, and additional charges.

The Aberdeen Police Department thanks the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and Aberdeen Fire Department for their assistance in bringing the incident to a safe resolution.
