Pacific County’s top law enforcement official took his concerns to Olympia this week. Sheriff Daniel Garcia testified against Senate Bill 5974, saying the proposal would change who qualifies to serve and who oversees elected sheriffs. Standing alongside other law enforcement leaders, he argued the bill takes power away from voters who choose their local sheriff. Garcia says that authority should stay with the people, not an unelected state board.
