An Aberdeen man was arrested early this morning in connection with the death of his 4-year-old son following an investigation by the Aberdeen Police Department.
At approximately 6:55 a.m., detectives arrested the 36-year-old suspect and booked him into the Aberdeen City Jail on felony charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Manslaughter in the First Degree. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Disposal of Human Remains and Making a False or Misleading Statement to a Public Servant. He is currently being held pending transfer to the Grays Harbor County Jail.
The investigation began on May 12 when Aberdeen Police officers responded to a reported missing child complaint involving the suspect’s 6-year-old daughter. Officers determined the child was safely with her mother and that the matter was a custodial issue rather than a criminal offense.
During follow-up interviews, detectives inquired about the whereabouts of the suspect’s 4-year-old son. The father initially told investigators that the child was staying with a relative out of state. Detectives later contacted the relative and learned the child had never been in their care.
As the investigation continued, detectives conducted multiple interviews with the father. Information obtained during those interviews ultimately led investigators to the discovery of the child’s body buried on the property. At that time, the circumstances surrounding the child’s death remained undetermined.
Due to the complexity of the case, the Aberdeen Police Department requested assistance from the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team. On May 15, the team assisted detectives with the recovery and processing of the child’s remains.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
